This web posting provides additional details on the J/Boats Specific Handicap Class being offered at Quantum Key West 2013. The information below is referenced in section 6.3 of the Notice of Race which is provided in its entirety at the bottom of this posting for your convenience.

 

Maximum Crew Weight Limits  (NOR 6.3.2):

The maximum crew weight limits for this class will be the same as the event PHRF crew weight limits.

 

Handicapping Consortium  (NOR 6.3.2):

The Special Handicapping Consortium, separate from the PHRF Handicapping Consortium, will consist of the following three individuals:

Rod Johnstone

Norm Davant

         Bruce Bingman 

 

Handicapping and Appeal Procedures  (NOR 6.3.3):

The handicapping and appeal procedures will be as specified in the event PHRF Rules & RegulationsWhen there is conflicting information in the Notice of Race or this web posting, the web posting will take precedence.

 

Handicapping Application  (NOR 6.2.3):

J/Boats entrants who competed in Key West 2012 and whose boats will be in the identical configuration and those J/Boats in strict one design configuration do not need to submit the full handicap application. They must instead submit the renewal application and all current PHRF, IRC and ORR handicap certificates. All other J/Boats entrants must submit a PHRF handicap application and all current PHRF, IRC and ORR handicap certificates prior to the December 21, 2012 entry deadline. After that date a late fee of US$100 must accompany the application. The Handicapping Consortium may request additional information above and beyond what is required on the handicap application. Additional certificate(s) are required for measurement verification purposes.

 

A J/Boats specific handicap certificate will be sent to entrants after the Consortium has assigned a handicap and all certificates will be posted on the event web site. Entrants should not wait for their Key West handicap certificate before submitting their entry.

 

 NOTICE OF RACE

6.3  J/BOATS HANDICAP CLASS

 

6.3.1 The Event Organizer will offer a separate J/Boats specific handicap class.  J/Boat models will include the J/111, J/122, J/120, J/109.  The Event Organizer reserves the right to adjust boat models based on entries.  J/Boats will provide details on the handicapping procedures no later than September 2, 2012 (posted on the event website). Separate scoring for one design models will also be offered within the J/Boats handicap class.  A minimum of 8 boats are necessary to establish a J/Boats specific handicap class.

 

6.3.2 The J/Boats specific handicap class will have maximum crew weight limits listed in the event PHRF Rules and Regulations.  A special J/Boats Rating Consortium will assign handicaps for this event.  The composition of the consortium will be posted on the event website no later than September 1, 2012.

 

6.3.3 The J/Boats specific handicap classes’ handicapping and appeal procedures will be posted on the event website.

 

6.3.4 The J/Boats specific handicap classes will be scored using handicaps provided by the special J/Boats Handicapping Consortium using time on time scoring. 


Base Crew Weight Limitations

PHRF RULES AND REGULATIONS

SECTION VI. 4.

Base Crew Weight Limitations:  For all PHRF entries, boats shall be rated within the following Base Crew Weight Limitations. Crew weigh-ins are not required for PHRF entries, but PHRF Crew Weight Limitations may be subject to protest. Boats shall sail with the same crew in all races unless the change is approved by the Race Chairman. Any request for changes in crew or crew numbers must be submitted to the Race Office in writing prior to the race in which the change is to take place. In addition, boats may carry up to two additional crewmembers above their designated crew weight limitation provided they accept a handicap adjustment as prescribed below. Entrants intending to carry additional crewmembers must so indicate on their PHRF handicap application. The PHRF handicap will be adjusted accordingly and the adjusted handicap will stand for the series.

Additional 180 pounds (approximately 1 crew) for each 3 feet of LOA over 50 feet.)

A boat’s LOA is to be rounded to the nearest foot. For example, a 25.49 foot boat is rounded to 25 feet LOA and is allowed a base crew weight of 720 pounds. A 25.5 foot boat is rounded to 26 feet LOA and is allowed a base crew weight of 900 pounds.
