Road Advisory for the
Florida Keys
|
Road Advisory Update
-
August and December 2007
There are ongoing road construction
activities and lane closures on US 1 south of Florida City
(Homestead). Premiere Racing is in regular contact with the
Florida Department of Transportation and local agencies. We will
post relevant information and updates as we learn about activities
that might impact boats coming to Key West in December or January.
But individuals should
contact the FDOT permit office (see below) directly regarding
current travel/permit status for their particular transit times
and dates as the situation is subject to change on short notice.
Please be advised of the following permit requirements and be
sure to make your arrangements as soon as reasonably possible.
Trailer basics:
- 8'6" and under do not require a
permit
- over 8'6" wide a load permit is
required
- 10' - 12' also require a
certified escort
- over 12' and up to 14' wide
require a law enforcement escort
- from the front of the truck
bumper to the rear of the trailer, the maximum length is 65' and
this measurement must include any overhangs such as a mast.
Currently:
- any trailers over 10' wide are
limited to night time only
- nothing over 14' wide is allowed
south of Florida City
Advice from FDOT - apply for your permit
and they will work through details and requirements with each
applicant. The website link has information and the permit forms:
www.fdotmaint.com/permit
For more information about permit requirements contact:
·
Florida DOT Permit office: 850-410-5777 (ask for a trip
technician) Website:

telephone numbers: (850) 414-4100
or Toll Free at
866-374-FDOT (3368).
December Road Construction Updates from FDOT:
In general, we anticipate that one lane of U.S. 1 at about MM
(Mile Marker) 107 will be closed Monday-Thursday from 8:30 p.m.
to 5:30 a.m. throughout the end of January. Also, one lane also
will be closed in the same location on Friday nights from 10
p.m. until 5:30 a.m. When one lane is closed, traffic uses the
other lane alternately, and a flagman will be on site to guide
them through the lane closure. Delays caused by these lane
closures have been minimal, and are generally no more than 10
minutes.
Speed limits have been reduced throughout the nine miles of our
construction zone and are strictly enforced. The speed limit is
45 mph from about MM 116 to about MM 108 and 35 mph from MM 106
to MM 108.
I believe wide loads on the Stretch are restricted to traveling
between midnight and 5 a.m. Any of your folks with wide loads
may want to contact FDOT to obtain a permit.
Patti Jones Public Information Officer
U.S. 1 "The Stretch" Reconstruction Project
Lane
restrictions will be the same until the end of January. 10 feet
and over will require a permit to travel South of Florida City.
Even though we will have night time Flagging Operations, wide
loads will have access. Saud Khan FDOT
